Well, with that settled, I believe it's time I head back home.

It's been a pleasure.

[She grins in a way that adds in an unspoken "mostly." The Barge hasn't always been a treat. But it has been an experience and not one that Polly can only complain about.]

private - mal.

I expect you'll manage from here, Corporal.

private - dean.

I know it's not usually in your habit to listen, but I'll say it all the same because I don't care about the differences between you and the Dean that was here before to descriminate all that much.

Take care of yourself, lad. If you can't do anything else, do that much.

[For anyone else, Polly is in the pub for a while before she calls Mal and hangs about for a while after Mal has left. Of course, after Mal has left, she's had a bit to drink (though not enough to be categorized as drunk, but given that she was drinking with a vampire it's somewhat of an achievement to be only as intoxicated as she is) so her cheeks are tinged a bit red and she may or may not be humming a folk song every now and again absentmindedly. And in those instances in which she may, Polly frowns upon remembering and realizing what she's doing and stops abruptly.]

[Polly's mostly sobered up by the time she leaves the pub and sits out on the deck, admiring the view.]

[After a chat with Mal, Polly takes the network. She's just a tiny bit angry, but it'd be hard to tell if not for the stern tone of voice.]

I assume there's a decent explanation as to why I found my corporal with the piss beaten out of her.

I've a bit of experience with newspapers and the like during wartime though it was from the other side of it.

[Which, of course, didn't mean Polly didn't ask questions. Her questions just simply didn't make it into print.]

I suppose with as much as Borogravia's history has been spent on frowning upon the written word and trusting the gossip you hear about the frontline and the politics, it didn't immediately occur to me--[or anyone else for that matter]--how much of a war can be fought through words alone until I was in the middle of it and those words alone seemed to change most everything.

[There were other factors, of course. But the story of their regiment certainly had an effect on the outside world enough to change Borogravia from war-mongerers to scrappy underdogs.]

I'm sure for most of you, this experience was a miserable one. But I find myself marveling at the commonalities across our different worlds that war might be found on the same stages.

[Polly is seated in the infirmary. Of course keeping a close eye on the girl while she's still unconscious.]

It appears someone's gone and decided to remove a limb from my inmate. I think you ought to know I don't take too kindly to those who might even think to hurt any one of my lads regardless of what your intent was.

[Because Polly's smart enough to deduce this wasn't necessarily malicious given that the wound had been cauterized and she was relatively unharmed.]

I'd suggest doing yourself a favor and turning yourself in. Might be that if you do, I might find myself in a better, more forgiving mood.

[Emphasis on the word might.]

[After some time well-spent with her inmate, Polly might be found on the deck, in the hallways, maybe in the dining hall, or even the library. We just don't know.]

public.

I think it's time for a change of subject.

[You guys have just been too damn depressing and apologizing left and right lately.]

What's one thing that always makes you think of home? You're free to get as maudlin as you like--[Just as she's free to ignore you when you do. c'8]--but I mean more in the nostalgic sense.

[Polly is a somewhat unhappy barmaid. It's not as though she dislikes her occupation. She certainly doesn't mind it even if she's not in love with it. She's good with the customers and doesn't put up with nonsense from them. Regulars know better than to try and make a grab at her bottom when she walks by and newcomers learn the hard way. She also doesn't even really mind having to manage the other maids.]

[But the fact is, Polly is bored with this life. She wants adventure in the great wide somewhere more out of life. It's not as though leaving hasn't occurred to her. It would be fairly simple and easy to do. It's not like she hasn't thought it out from what to pack to maybe even where to go. But she does have her family to think of.]

[So, for now, Polly keeps glasses full and the place clean. It's not the most exciting of lives to lead, but it's enough to make her content. And for now, that seems to be enough.]

Out of curiosity, how many of you have a training or a specialty? It doesn't have to be necessarily related to combat or weapons, of course, but being able to drink everyone on the Barge under the table - though commendable - doesn't count.

[She imagines combat/weapon-related ones will be the most popular, but she'd still like to know how much of a diversity (or lack thereof) there is.]

Out of further curiosity, what is it?

[There are enough smart-asses on board she thinks would just say they have training and leave it at that.]

And for those that don't have any, why not?

[Polly's taken the time to explore the Barge top to bottom and bottom to top. Now she's spending some time on the deck to figure out the communicator. All of this is brand new, but there's also plenty familiar about it at at the same time. So, she's cool as a cucumber when she gets the video working.]

Well, I guess today's excitement answers the question whether or not there's ever any riots involving squidmen around here. [For the unobservant, that sure is some dry sarcasm. But it's okay. She can easily get used to this kind of weird.] I've got more than that, of course seeing as how I'm new, but I think I'll just wait.

You can call me Polly.

She's also one with the dry sarcasm and patronizing mockery if you start to annoy and/or frustrate her.
